Ibuprofen is analgesic medicine (drug which relieve pain). It do not treat cause of the pain. The cause of your rib cage pain may be: infection, inflammation, minor fracture after trauma and muscle spasm.
Although you can take ibuprofen for pain relief but same time you get yourself investigated for cause of the pain and start curative treatment for it.
