What To Do If There Is Sharp Pain When Urinating For A Child?

My 12 year old daughter is complaining of a sharp burning pain when urinating. She has completed a course of trimethoprim 100mg, yet the pain is still consistent. It has now been 2 weeks and the pain is still there and progressively becoming painful leaving her with nausea. could you advise please?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hello. Thank you for your question. It is possible the urinary tract infection that the trimethoprim was supposed to treat didn't work. It is always important to send a second urine sample to the lab several days into treatment to make sure the bacteria are gone. She very possibly still has the infection. I recommend consulting with your doctor so the correct diagnosis can be made and the appropriate treatment plan implemented.
