What Treatment Is Recommended For Blood In The Stool, Diarrhea , And Lose Of Weight ?
My mom, who is 76 and diabetic, has had blood in her stools and diahhrea since mid-August. A colonoscopy was performed, but nothing was found. Her hemoglobin count is down from where it was and her symptoms persist. She only requires oral medicine for her diabetes, which is under control. She has lost weight. Whatever do you think is wrong?
Hello Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. Since your mother's age is 76 years and an old diabetic patient . Stool with blood and watery diarrhea present from last 5 - 6 months . Colonoscopy found nothing . In my opinion in such type of cases the cause may be . 1 Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura , diagnosis can be confirmed blood film examination . 2 Hemorrhoids is the most prominent cause of blood in stool.Diagnosis can be confirmed by physical examination by a surgeon. 3 Anemia is another most important cause of blood in stool. Diagnosis can be confirmed by hemoglobin examination. 4 Cancer of stomach is another such cause . Diagnosis can be confirmed by endoscopy ( upper G I ). In my opinion consult another physician and get his opinion at earliest. Good luck. Dr.HET
