What Treatment Is Suggested For A Compression Fracture On Back And Shoulder?
I am a 60- yr old woman. I caught the toe of my shoe on the step and went flying down a half flight of stairs. I landed on my stomach. But my back is killing me. And my upper shoulder blade/neck area. I wouldnt think I have a compression fracture because of how I landed but it hurts a lot in most positions. I dont want xrays. Should I keep still and treat with ice and ibuprofen and/or muscle relaxers?
Hello and thank you for your question. It will be hard to know what has happened without xrays, but if your pain is not too severe then you can try some conservative treatments and see if it eases off over the next few days. If it does not then see a doctor as soon as possible. Lying down and resting is helpful but you definitely want to get up and move around some so that you do not get stiff. Icing the areas of pain can help with inflammation. Ibuprofen and muscle relaxers may be helpful. Make sure to move your shoulder around through its range of motion to keep it from getting stiff. I hope you are feeling better soon. Thanks for using HCM.
