What Type Of Treatment Is Recommended After Undergoing Back Surgery For Scoliosis?

My name is Cathy and I am 61. I had Major Back Surgery 1 year ago this past January to fix a severe 70 degree curve due to Scoliosis my curve was in my waiste so I don t bend at the waiste anymore I know I did the right thing in having the Surgery but I feel like I am not the same person I was before the Surgery because this has been a big life style change for me I have had to learn to do things a lot different then the way I did before there are times when I really feel down I feel like this is not me where did I go. The only people I can talk to about this is my Friends because my Husband thinks that I should not of had the Surgery so he dosen t ever want to talk about it but my Back Doctor told me if I didn t have the Surgery eventually the Curve would get worse and I would end up in a wheelchair and that s not what I wanted for myself and I would not want my Husband to have to take care of me like that. I have been having a hard time dealing with this is there some one who can help me Please.

Anesthesiologist 's  Response
Hello,

If your main symptom is difficulty in movement and pain, you may require physical therapy and rehabilitation exercises to improve the movement and decrease pain. I would advise you to meet a physical therapist and discuss your problem. If there is no improvement even after physical therapy you may need to consult your operating surgeon.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
