Just had general anaesthetic for surgery, when can I expect a bowel movement. It is now the 4th day following anaesthetic & my bowel is ready (I can feel it) sit on the toilet but nothing happens. Should I just keep up the water , fiber & exercise. Will it happen soon.
It usually bowel movements may reoccur within 24-48 hours after surgery. If not use osmotic laxatives or stool softners is useful. You can take high fiber diet under the concern of doctor. If symptoms not improved, please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
