When Can A Patient Start Walking Post Surgery Of The Fibula Bone?

Hello, I broke my fibula on April 13th, I had surgery on April 29th, 6 pins and a plate. At this point, only about 5.5 weeks later, I m experiencing low levels of pain if any, mostly it doesn t hurt. I have found that I can walk on it, it s a bit stiff but other than that really doesn t cause much discomfort. What I want to know is it OK for me to be walking? Will it help rehabilitate it faster than keeping it up all day?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Post surgery it takes certain amount of time to regain the strength for the bone. In your case my advice will be, do not rush. Consult your orthopedic surgeon. Let him analyze your condition and then do as per he says. As putting too much strain might delay the recovery. It's better to consult your doctor before you start walking. A help from physiotherapist is also worth taking.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
