When Is Levothyroxine Prescribed ?
WHAT AILMENT IS LEVOTHYROXINE PRESCRIBED FOR. MY PARTNER WENT TO HIS PRIMARY DOCTOR AND THIS MED. WAS PRESCRIBED FOR HIM. MY PARTNER HAS SOME DIMENTIA AND CANNOT REMEMBER THE REASON HE SHOULD TAKE THIS. HE WENT TO THE DOCTOR THINKING HE HAD THE FLU, BUT HE WAS EXPERIENCING A COUGH AND SPITTING YELLOWISH MUCOUS. DOCTOR ALSO PRESCRIBED AN ANTIBIOTIC FOR A POSSIBLE LUNG INFECTION.

Levothyroxine is used in persons with low levels of the thyroid hormone. It is one of the replacement therapies that can be used for hypothyroidism.
Hypothyroidism would be detected on blood tests- TSH , T4 and T 3 levels.
Your friend should consider consulting his doctor if he is unsure about his use.
If he has difficulty remembering or understanding, it would be best if someone went with him on his doctor visits.
