When Should Gabapentin Be Taken?

My doctor just started me on gabapentin for arthritus, but I am taking tegretal for trigeminal neurolgia(sorry about the spelling). About forty years ago I remember taking the two at the same time to control the nerve in my jaw. Should I take the gabapentin at night as prescribed and the tegretal in mornings? It does make me sleepy in the mornings but I am afraid to take both at night. Any suggestions? Bonnie

Gabapentin is an anti-epileptic medication, which is used to treat seizures and nerve pain caused by shingles in adults.
The time and mode of intake of this medication depends on the brand what you are using.
Horizontal brand should not be taken during the day. For best results, it needs to be taken with food in the evening by 5 pm.
Neurontin brand can be taken with or without food.
Do not stop using Gabapentin suddenly. Follow your doctor's instructions about tapering the dose.
