Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
When should I take omeprazole (time of day). I take thyroid meds first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Then I wait 1 hr and take the omeprazole. That makes it 2 hrs. before I can eat breakfast after I wake up. My daughter is a nurse and she takes her omeprazole right before she goes to bed YYYY@YYYY
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern. Absorption of Omeprazole & thyroid medicines both gets affected by the gastric acids. so should be taken on empty stomach in the morning. Taking omeprazole with thyroid medicines( levothyroxine) decreases availability of levothyroxine. so omeprazole should be taken 1 hour after levothyroxine as you are taking.
Taking omeprazole just before bed is not a ideal time for its absorption & your daughter is taking it at wrong time.
Hope this information helps.
