When Should Oxycodone Be Given For Pain After An Inguinal Hernia Repair?
My 3 yr old grandson just had an inguinal hernia repair and hydroelectric done this am at 9:30. He s been doing great all day but I believe they did inject local to begin with. They have sent him home with a pain med oxycodone should I wake him up tonight in the middle of the night and giv him more even if he s sleeping just to stay ahead of the pain?
As per your history is concerned, Oxycodone is an opioid analgesic which is given for moderate to severe pain only. If pain is not severe then no need to give that one by waking from bed. Use CHEOPS [Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Pain Scale]. If pain score is >4 points then analgesic is required.
I hope I was able to address your query. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to write to me. Wishing you all the best.
Thanks, Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
