I have had whooping cough now for a little over 3 weeks and have been on two types of antibiotic, and have not made a difference when will I start feeling better
Hello Ryan,
Welcome to HealthcareMagic. Sorry to know you are suffering from whooping cough/Pertussis. You mentioned, you are already on antibiotics. You must possibly be on antibiotics like erythromycin or its newer generations like azithromycin or clarithromycin. They are generally prescribed for a period of two weeks. And I should mention that symptoms of pertussis may be ameliorated basically when effective antimicrobial therapy is started atleast within 2 weeks of cough onset. However, after the second week, antimicrobial therapy has little effect on the course of illness and is indicated primarily to limit the spread of the organism to others. And it is also seen that even if disease is under control, the cough takes a longer time to settle. So you are requested a regular follow up at the physician's office. Hope I could answer your query.Get well soon.
