Which Doctor Should I Consult For A Ganglion Cyst On The Finger Joint?

I have a ganglion cyst at the first joint of my middle finger. I have no pain and it has not changed in size for about a year. I have had it frozen and aspirated but it came back. What type of doctor should I see to remove it and is there a risk of joint pain afterwards? Tks

Hello! Welcome to HCM!

A ganglion cyst is a fluid filled lump, associated with a joint or a tendon. It usually occurs around the wrist, for most. A surgeon would be the best doctor for you to consult. As you probably know, it is done as an outpatient procedure, with aspiration of the cyst. Yes, Ganglion cysts do recur in about 41 % pf the people, unfortunately. Sometimes the reason may be an incomplete earlier removal. For some, joint stiffness may occur after the treatment; but this is not very common.

Hope this has been helpful.
