Hi, I have undergone an open heart surgery on April 7th for ASD closure. I have been asked to take Mantoux test by another doctor before heart surgery. I have to take the test and report to the second doctor as soon as possible. When I can take this Mantoux test ? will it have any side effect on my heart which is in recovery stage now. What is the risk factor ?
You are questioning what a Mantoux skin test is? The Mantoux skin test is a test for TB. They inject a small amount of tuberculin particles under that skin. It is only slightly painful less than a pin prick. After injecting the material we wait 2 days and then recheck the injection site. If there is redness and swelling then that is a positive skin reaction and further testing for TB is needed. If there is no swelling then you have not been exposed to TB.
The TB test is a common and routine test done to screen for TB
