Why Am I Experiencing Chest Pain And Severe Cough Despite Steroid Treatment After Near-drowning Incident?

I suffered a near-drowning incident on 23/12/13, but was rescued and promptly treated with steroids (I was in Egypt). I still have chest pain and can taste salt when I have been coughing, which is preventing me from working - I am a musician. Can you tell me when I might get my wind back?

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Hello
Thanks for your query.
Its really tough to exactly tell you when you might get your wind back. It may take usually 6 months from the onset of illness but sometimes it may also take upto 1-2 years. It all depends upon your initial lung damage, treatment intensities you had received that time and co-morbidities like diabetes which can further complicate the disease course. You should have a regular follow up visit to a pulmonologist.
Thank you.
