Why Am I Losing Weight?

Hi sir

I am sbm, fgmar came to your hospital 8 years back.i had oral sex with a guy. I got fever, vomiting, diarhoea and I came to you.i had hiv test and it came negative. But i got diabetes now and I am currently losing weight. I got a fear whether due to diabetes I am losing weight or it might be due to hiv?so I am in a very confused state what to do. Could you please suggest me will I have hiv which was not detected 8 years Back?or will it be a normal diabetes only.

Hello! Thank you for writing! I have gone through your question and understand your concern.
Diabetes is one of the causes for weightloss as your body don't use well the glucose by the cells (type 2 diabetes) causing weightloss.
How fast after the sex you have done the test. Better repeat your HIV test in order to rule it out. Because there is a HIV window period. There's a period of time after a person is infected during which they won't test positive. This is called the HIV "window period."

The window period can be from 10 days to 3 months, depending on the person's body and on the HIV test that's used. During that time, you can test HIV-negative even though you're HIV-positive. You can still get HIV from someone who is in the window period. In fact, there is evidence that a person in the window period is more likely to pass the virus on. So the time you took the first test is important. If you took it within 3 months after having sex, I think you should repeat it, to be sure and safe( although the weightloss ).
Thank you. Wish you good health.
