Why Am I Having Sharp Pain In Lower Abdomen After Clinical Abortion?
I am a 23 year old female. I weigh 160 lbs and I am 6ft tall. I had an in-clinic abortion yesterday and now I am experiencing very sharp pains in my lower abdomen. I do not understand why I am feeling such discomfort if the pregnancy has been removed. Is this normal?
It is unusual to have pain after an abortion procedure.
The possible causes of pain are : 1. some bits of products of conception left inside the uterus. This may happen as the procedure of performing an abortion is a blind one [means based on judgement alone] and if some bits are stuck high up they may remain behind and cause pain and bleeding. 2. injury to the uterus: happens very rarely. This may also cause severe pain, nausea, fainting etc 3. causes other than abortion related like constipation, appendicitis, urinary tract infections.
Please check to see if you are having any bleeding, vomiting, fever or nausea.
In any case you must see your treating gynecologist immediately and inform about the pain and get the cause evaluated as soon as possible.
Please take care and see your doctor as soon as possible.

Dear member, Thanks for writing to healthcare magic. The uterus cramps and minimum blood loss will be there for 2-3 days. If associated with fever and Foul smelling discharge then consult your doctor immediately. Otherwise antispasmodic medicine will be enough. Thanks Dr Bhagyashree
