Why Are The Soft Palate And The Area Behind Uvula Becoming Extremely Dry When I Sleep ?
Sometimes when I sleep at night, my soft palate and the area behind my uvula become extremely dry. I wake up to a feeling of my uvula blocking the airway from my nose. The dryness isn't relieved from swallowing, and trying to very difficult. With a glass of water, it's two or three sips before the dryness is relieved. This is only started to happen in the last ten years after I had a surgery where I had tubal anesthesia. I thought it would go away a few months after surgery - but that was 10 years ago. What is it and why is it happening? HELP!!
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..
As per your query tubal anaesthesia done ten years back does not seems to be the cause of dryness in throat and causing difficulty in breathing but the more probable cause seems to be mouth breathing habit while sleeping.. In case if you have a mouth breathing habit there is a possibility that you sleep with mouth open and due to continuous communication of air in and out of mouth leads to dryness and feeling of choking.. You can follow a simple trick like applying a vertical strip of micropore tape over your closed lips before sleeping and it will enforce nasal breathing and the dryness will not occur.. You can also sip water whenever you wake up at night.. If still there is no improvement or you find it difficult in breathing through nose consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated..
Hope this information helps..
