Why Can't Biopsy Be Done For Small Lung Nodules?

I've had three very small lung nodules, 2 in right and one in left over three years now which have not progressed. I asked to have them biopsied but he says their too small still in mm less than 5 not in cm stage. Why can't a biopsy be done and have them removed? I'm 58 now and had thyroid out in June 2014 which turned out to be all benign. Had too many nodules.
Thank u for taking my question
