Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
One of my lower ribs on my left side has been tender to touch for a few years. i never really notice it unless someone or something touches it and then it really hurts. even just the lightest touch really hurts. when it started hurting a few years ago i figured i had bruised it somehow, but it never seems to have healed. i feel like it has been hurting a lot more recently. Any idea what could be going on with that rib and why it hasn t ever gotten better?
Dear anonymous, the injury you had few years back seems insignificant, it would have healed by now. The pain you have needs to be evaluated, the exact site of pain (if its localised), any changes with breathing coughing. If it's over your costo-chondral junction (the site where your ribs meet the sternum) it might turn out to be Costochondritis. Its not uncommon and has similar symptoms. For that you'll have to take anti inflammatory medicines for a few days with hot fomentation. Do let me in few more details that I've already mentioned, and I'll get back to you. If an X-ray's done mail it to me on atulosteoblast@gmail.com.
Good day.
