Pathologist and Microbiologist, Dr. M Agarwal's Response
Hello. welcome to HCM.
Your symptoms are suggestive of Inflammatory bowel disease- of which ulcerative proctocolitis is an important group. Now the diagnosis is based on clinical history, supported by both colonoscopic findings and by biopsy. On biopsy, features are quite classic and comprise of findings like cryptitis, crypt abscess, superfecial mucosal ulcerations. edema and mucin depletion to name a few.
Now, for your doubt that the report might be wrong.... See as patients you always have the choice of getting a second opinion on your slide. Pathologists can better understand each other's terminology and may mutually discuss if required. So, you can go in for this.
It is better and important to come to terms with your medical condition as soon as possible as you can be treated well in time for UC (remember, if untreated, it is prone to complications).
take care.
