Why Experiencing Discoloration On Labia Minora With Itching On Clitoris And Strong Odor?
I am 48 years old and for some months i have been experiencing a discoloration on my labia minora and itching on and around the clitoral hood. there is a unusual odor but not strong and when i have intercourse, it feels as if it is tearing my skin and when done i wipe a little blood caused by the activity. also recenly, my anus has been a little itchy at night and when i have a bowel movement. my primary care doc says there is no std, and the discoloration looks as if I have metigo (sp) (what makes the color of your skin). She said that I may have a slight yeast infection. My Gyno says that my vagial walls have thined. sex is painful and I need to know what is going on...
If your gynecologist has examined you and says your vaginal walls are thinned, there are two conditions that can cause this problem. Lower estrogen levels due to menopause can lead to thinning and paling of the skin in and around the vagina which can result in the symptoms you describe. It also can cause a mild odor in the vagina. This condition is called atrophic vaginitis and may be treated with estrogen cream applied to the area. The second possibility is a condition called lichen sclerosis that can cause thick dry skin around the labia, clitoris and anus. This condition is treated with high-potency steroid cream. Bleeding from sex certainly can be caused by both of these conditions, but you also should have a pap smear to make sure that there is no cervical or uterine abnormalities causing the bleeding.
I hope you discuss these possible conditions with your doctor and he/she can prescribe you something to help your symptoms. In the meantime, use an external lubricant when you have intercourse to ease discomfort and chafing. I hope this information was helpful and that you get an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
