Why Is Clomifene Tablets Taken?

Hi Doctor, My wife has unexplained fertility problem which as a result she can not conceive. After completing all the required tests, the specialist prescribed her Clomifene tablets to take it for five days. She has taken for four days already and will take the last one tonight. What will happen after this, we have no clue. Please advise! Thanks, Ranjeet

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

Clomiphene citrate, commonly known as Clomifene, is a medication often used to induce ovulation in women who have difficulty conceiving due to ovulatory dysfunction. After your wife completes the five-day course of Clomifene tablets, she should continue to monitor her menstrual cycle for signs of ovulation. Typically, ovulation occurs 5-10 days after the last dose of Clomifene, although it can vary depending on the individual. It's important to note that not all women will ovulate in response to Clomifene.

If your wife does ovulate, there is a chance that she may conceive naturally during her next menstrual cycle. However, if she does not ovulate or does not conceive after several cycles, her specialist may recommend further fertility treatments such as intrauterine insemination (IUI) or in vitro fertilization (IVF). It's important to follow up with your specialist to discuss your wife's response to the Clomifene and to determine the next steps in your fertility journey.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
