Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been having severe pain in my abdomen that is on and off for years and was recently referred to a specialist. I had an endoscopy done and got a paper that said my stomach is very nodular, and was told I had a biopsy done. Now when I think biopsy I automatically think cancer. I tried asking questions but was still woozy and brushed off by nurses, what would the biopsy be for and what does having stomach nodules actually mean? Is it serious? I am a 19 year old female.
Nodular stomach may be seen in H. pylori infection most common in young age females. Probably to confirm the diagnosis they took biopsy.
The biopsy samples from your stomach are examined under a microscope for signs of damage or disease or to see the h pylori bacteria.
For the culture, biopsy samples from your stomach are placed in a special culture dish. The tissue is monitored to see if bacteria, fungus, viruses, or other organisms grow.
Chronic h pylori may cause gastric lymphomas or gastric malignancy. So, do not worry about it.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
