I had my blood tests done and my GGTP levels are at 123 U/L, but my SGOT is at 28 and my SGPT is at 37 which are both normal results. I hardly drinky any alcohol and still my GGTP levels are high. What could be my health issue and how can I lower my GGTP levels?
Hello and welcome to HCM, A normal level of liver enzymes i.e. SGOT and SGPT rule out any damage to the hepatocytes or liver cells. Elevated levels of gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT) are seen in disorders of biliary tract. Alcoholism is one of the causes, however, it is not the only cause. There are other biliary disorders which cause elevated levels of GGT like primary biliary cirrhosis, sclerosing cholangitis, etc. However, a clinical correlation and relevant investigations (ultrasound, ERCP) are required to make any diagnosis. You need to consult your physician with report for further management.
