I am 40 yrs old, 6 2 and 195lbs. I am on atenolol 25 mg once daily. I have been waking up with full feeling in my left ear. used q tip gently in ear and wax looked like it contained some dry blood. today after rinsing ear with peroxide there was fresh blood on side of q tip, not on the tip.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your short history and understood the concerns.
The cause of feeling full in ear can be many and one of the following:
Wax as you have thought but this needs removal; using q-tips actually pushes most of the wax inside can causes more complications.
Cold or pharyngeal problems causing fullness in middle ear.

This can be diagnosed well and treated properly by an ENT Surgeon only, after proper endoscopic examination and treatment being given as per the cause found.
Stop self-cleaning.
Instill wax dissolving drops and consult your ENT Surgeon
If there is inflammation you may need additional treatment with antibiotic since blood has been seen, anti-inflammatory medications
antihistamine and so on as per the cause found.

I hope this answer helps you. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,

Dr. T Chandrakant,
