Why Is My Left Neck Vein Bulges Out Freqently?
I have a left neck vein (jugular, I believe) that bulges out frequently, especially when I m talking and exhaling deeply. The vein is a bit larger than the diameter of pencil, and also has what appears to be a dimple on it toward the bottom. I have an intermittent, slightly dull ache over the area from the vein & toward my clavicle and up toward my lower jaw. I also have noticed a distinct feeling of pressure in my entire neck and head area upon exertion. I dont know if it s relevant, but I was diagnosed w/an atrial septal aneurysm in 2005 (no hole in septum, just floppy. ) Thank you in advance.

My Opinion-
In My opinion, in the given situation you seem to suffer from-Impaired Cardio-dynamics with clot in the atrium from untreated ASA(Atrial Septal Anuerysm) by antiplatelets and blood thinners.
Other defects accompanying ASA needs to be ruled out and treated.
Venous Over-Distension from TOS-(Thorasic Outlet Syndrome) Scalene syndrome or from Extra Rib or long transverse process compromising the space for External jugular neck veins.
Increase in deep breathing and exertion is from compromised cardiac out due to Complications with untreated ASA in your case.
Do's Suggested-
Consults with Cardiologist with 2 D echo studies would fix the cause with CT neck and thorax.
Start treatment of accompanied cardiac failure and clot dissolution with blood thinners and antiplatelet-Clopidogrel medicines.
Other causes need to be ruled out,after getting more details from you.
Next appointment-
Asap to review and plan the treatment for existing problem .
