Why Is Xanax Prescribed Instead Of Ativan For Anxiety?

I have been on benzodiazapines of one type or another since my late teens when a family physician rxed me xanax as I along with my mom had panic disorder. In colorado I had no problem finding a sympathetic doctor. Alas in SF the very capital of progressive and liberal thinking Ive gotten no one to even rx me ativan. I am benzo dependant.....26 years and now must go to PillHILL an illigal source of pain, hiv meds, and of course antianxiety meds....... what to do Anxious in SF

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for using healthcare magic

In that case, you should be on long acting benzodiazepine or sedative antidepressant. That would help you to keep the dose in control. You should consult a psychiatrist to shift you on these drugs and gradually taper them down. That would help you keep out of benzodiazepine dependence. In case, you need further help, you can ask.

Thanks
