Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My oncologist wants me to have a ct guided biopsy on a minimal nodularity in my right flank peritoneam. I had ascites fluid drained from my abdomen and showed no cancer cells. Why the new biopsy then and is it necessary? I have MBC to bones since 2012 and only when I took Inbrance did my bloating start. I am off the chemo capsule and have no recurrence of ascites.
Ascites fluid content is not usually used to diagnose cancer. Biopsy of a tissue is needed which can be then observed microscopically to see changes in cells suggestive of cancer.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saralkumar R. Desai,
