Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 3 month old grand daughter has not been putting on weight and at lunch time today was taken into hospital as she has always made little grunting noises, my daughter has been told that the baby may have an enlarged heart or possibly some other heart problem that might need an operation. I am frantic with worry, what does an enlarged heart mean for a 3 month old baby?
Hi.... what they referring to probably is a congenital dilated cardiomyopathy, which means that the baby's heart might be enlarged since birth for reasons which might be diagnosable or not. The reason for dilatation could be a structural heart disease too. But right now what's on priority will be to stabilize the baby.
