Why Was There Black Out After A Cut ?

Hi, my friend got cut today by a sharp object, and minutes later he blacked out for several seconds. The blood lost was not enough to make someone faint. What do you think is going on? My friend isn t afraid of blood, he has bandaged wounds before.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thats a common Phenomenon after blood loss.Does your friend suffer from any problems with the blood pressure? Blackout occurs due to temporary reduction in the blood pressure on blood loss. As specified by you that the blood loss was not much but eventhough a person feels giddiness/weakness on bloos loss.

General & Family Physician Dr. Usman Imtiaz's  Response
Fear can cause such type of episodes. Sometimes people faint just by the sight of blood. It is called syncope. It is normal. In such cases patient should be lied down and legs should be raised to increase the blood return to heart.
