Will CT And X Ray Affect The Developing Fetus?

About a month ago, I had an xray and CT scan to my abdomen with contrast and IV iodine. They said I wasn't pregnant at the time. Three days later, I had intercourse with my husband (and have not since). I missed my latest period and found out I was pregnant recently. Will the Ct and X-ray affect my developing fetus?

Hi and welcome to HCM

I understand your concern and no need to worry because you have been exposed to x ray and CT scan before conception. This wont affect your current pregnancy and development of fetus.

Your doctor might suggest you an ultrasound scan in early pregnancy to rule out any malformations and to rule out downs syndrome. This will give a complete picture of developing fetus. In your case it is least likely that X ray and CT scan affecting fetus.

Dr Santosh
