Will Starlix Help In Controlling High Glucose Level?

Hi, I am on Onglyza 5mg per day, plus metformin 2,000 mg per day. My morning glucose reading are high...about 200., and after even a light meal my post reading can be about 275. Would taking Starlix before a meal help at least with the post meal high? Are there any other options to control the morning effect high glucose? I have lost some weight on Onglyza and working to lose more. However, I am concerned I am not in strict control . My last A1c was 6.5.

Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

There are multiple parts to your answer so i will answer them one by one

First and foremost, HbA1C of 6.5 is a fairly good control. upto 6 is considered normal. So I think 6.5 is a good test report for you. However, with those sugar levels, you need to make and keep up the efforts so that the next test does not raise the levels.

Second, a loss of weight is always good for a diabetic, especialy type two diabetes. With a good exercise regimen, the loss of weight will definitely help you attain a better control on sugars.

About Starlix helping you. There is a good chance it may help you. However I may inform you that the sugars in every individual needs a different level of medicine and control. So while it may help, the control may not be complete till the individualized dose you need is reached.

As for treatment options, there are many many treatment options left. There are several group of medicines that you can use. And of course, it seems to me you have not even attempted control on insulin yet. So options are still a lot.

Keep checking your sugars regularly. Maintain a sugar chart. Monitor your kidney functions and lipid profile in addition to the sugars

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above so i can be of help further. Best of luck.

I have given you the answer to the maximum considering the information provided. The results of the tests could further enhance my answer to you.

Please do understand that some details could be extracted from a detailed history and examination.

Looking forward to your return query with the details asked so that I can help you further.
