Hello, and i hope I can help you today.
Disk disease is not a reason that would interfere with your ability to have a
vaginal delivery. The only part of labor that may be affected by your disk disease is the ability for you to get epidural
anesthesia for labor, if that is something you plan for and desire. Some anesthesiologists may be uncomfortable placing an epidural on you if your bulging disks are very low in the spine, but normally epidurals are done below the levels of typical disk disease.
In order to help your
back pain, you can wear a
back brace made of elastic or a a firm maternity girdle (these are sold in stores for pregnant women or can be purchased on the internet) that can help support your back. Maternity
massage and stretching techniques and even certain pain medications are safe to take while you are pregnant and may help.
It is true that your pain may get worse as your belly gets bigger, but it does not affect your ability to have a vaginal delivery. You may want to see the doctor who treated you before the
pregnancy to see if they have any suggestions.
I hope my advice was helpful and that I adequately answered your question today. Best wishes, Dr. Brown
