Will Hernia Recur As I Am Pregnant For The Second Time ?
hey my name is jeannette and im concern because i had a hernia repair in june of 2006 and then i had my daughter in aug. of 2009 with a c section that caused me to have another hernia repair, now i just fund out i m pregnant again...i want to know what are my chances with this pregnancy because it will b c section again and i m high risk because of my type 2 diabetes
Greetings!
Its unfortunate you had 3 major surgeries already
Opening the abdomen once more - surgically very challenging and at higher risk
The blood sugars really need to be under good control too ensure proper growth of the baby
The chance of another C section is high and the risk or recurrent hernia is greater
Please discuss with your surgeon who did the hernia repair and your OBGYN consultant for proper guidance and care
Hi Jeanette,
You have had 3 major surgeries and ideally this pregnancy should also terminate with a c section. You will come high risk from the surgical point of view after that. The pregnancy should be normal except for the diabetes which needs to be controlled. You should opt for a planned section.I would advise you not to have more kids after that and you might want to think about a permanent birth control(tubal ligation) after this child.Any future surgeries involving the abdomen will be tricky and risky.
