Hi, i was diagnosed to have otitis externa and was prescribed with sofradex, sofradex was prescribed for a month.but d discharged from my ear doesnt seem to reduce and i develope reduce in hearing with ringing sensation eventhough i can still hear.the blocked sensation is like i can hear my own voice when i speak.is this a sign for ototoxicity?if yes, and how many percent of patients will encounter ototoxicity with the use of this eardrop?what is the duration of usage of such eardrop before a person develope ototoxicity? thanks
HI. Read and understood that you have been given sofradex for otitis exerna, but the discharge does not stop. In addition you have reduced hearing and ringing, echoing has started.. This is may be due to Ototoxicity or can be a complication of the infection.
My thoughts: This is called malignant otitis externa, and the root cause may be Diabetes. Hence first of all get all the blood tests for Diabetes, kidney function. Get a CT scan of the mastoids to see the extent of the infection. Send the pus for gram staining, culture ans sensitivity.
These reports will guide for a better, result oriented management which may be surgery too.
