Will Sotalal Be Effective For Ventricular Tachycardia?
Given a diagnosis of ventricular tachycardia at a major medical center. Treatment is sotalol and a cardiac pacemaker defibrillator. What would be a rough estimate of the effect of all this on the life expectancy of an otherwise normal 53 yr old female?
Thank you for the question.Sotalol as advised at medical center is drug of choice, you have to watch pulse, however which should not fall below 50 per minute. Also keep a watch for dizziness, syncopy and irregular pulse.ICD defibrillator is put by cardiologist if symptoms not controlled by medicines.Get your serum calcium, K, Chlorides,Na creatine, urea tested periodicaly, also liver function tests. Watch for attacks of palpitations and breathlessness.Life expantency is good with all precautions and management.of the cause of VT.In your case, what is your heart history any heart attack or CHF or hypertension or valvular disease? If none these than sotalol alone may be sufficient.be on 3 monthly touch with a cardiologist
