Will Taking Oral Morphine For Cancer Lead To Pain?
My sister has lung cancer and is taking oral morphine. The cancer has stopped growing but the pain in her side in increasing -- the cancer has spread to the hip but it is also not spreading in the last two cat scans. Is it possible that the morphine is causing her pain to increase. She is taking a large dose.
Morphine is a strong narcotic pain killer and with time tolerance develops in body to its effect so dose has to be increased or other pain killers or adjunct drugs have to be added. Also it needs to be investigated if there is some underlying pathological fracture causing pain which may benefit from fixation or radiaton therapy. Please discuss with the treating doctors.
