My 4 year old was diagnosed with ear infection yesterday and is now on Biaxin. This evening he has developed what looks like pink eye (green mucous in his eyes) and his eyes are slightly closed. Will the Biaxin treat the pink eye or do I need another prescription also?
Hello It seems from the history that your 4 year old is on Biaxin for treatment of ear infection. Biaxin is clarithromycin, an antibiotic and it is commonly used for treatment of upper respiratory tract infections and for treatment of ear infections. Pink eye is also infective condition and it is infection of the conjunctiva of the eye called as conjunctivitis. The treatment is by use of antibiotic eye drops. Hence he requires another prescription for antibiotic eye drops. The commonly used antibiotic eye drops are moxifloxacin or tobramycin. Hence I advice you to consult your doctor for prescription of the drug.
Thank you
