Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I started taking EMSAM 6mg and Vyvance 120mg 1xdaily about 18 months ago. I have since developed a compulsive need to pull or twist my hair. This has now lead to obvious hair breakage and thinness in a particular area. From reading, I gather the most likely reason is the Vyvance. I would like to know if once I stop taking the Vyvance will the compulsion stop or have I formed a habit beyond the medication?
If you suddenly stop taking Vyvanse, it's highly likely that you'll experience what is known as the Vyvanse crash. This is a sudden onset of possibly severe withdrawal symptoms, especially irritability, anxiety, and fatigue. Additionally, you may notice a sudden return of your adult ADHD symptoms.
Even people who take Vyvanse as directed may experience some withdrawal symptoms if they decide to stop taking this medication, with help from a medical professional. Your doctor will likely help you to taper your use of the stimulant.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
