Will Weaning Off Prozac Help Loose Weight?

I have recently weened off of Prozac 40mg qd. I have been on 20 to 40 for about 16 yrs. My weight has increased around 40lbs. No matter how clean and low calorie I eat. Nothing would come off. Exercise 45 mins 4 days a week. I am a 43 yr old woman. Just had all blood work done. I am so blessed to be in excellent health. Should the weight be easier to lose now off of prozac?

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Prozac is Fluoxetine and the drug is a SSRI drug. It is known to cause some weight gain in individuals who take high doses of this drug. You have been taking about 40 mg since last 16 years so this may be the one reason for your weight gain. In my opinion weaning the doses should help to loose some weight but continue to do exercises and take high nutrition food as this would help in early weight loss. Stop or reduce the doses of the drug only after consulting your doctor.

Hope this helps you. Thanks and Take care
