Wisdom Tooth Extraction, Fever, Sore Throat, Tingling Sensation Behind Throat, Cough. Healing Time?

I had a wisdom tooth extracted four weeks ago. I developed a fever and sore throat . The fever resolved but now I have a tingling feeling at the back of my through that makes me want to cough. When I cough I get a sore throat. So I am trying hard not to cough. It is getting slowly better but why is this taking so long to go away?

Hello,

Thanks for question.Looks like you have got pharyngitis.Ideally this should be treated with course of antibiotic, particularly since you had fever. This should speed up the recovery, since its likely that you are having subacute prolonged infection.

You can give try to warm salt water gargles, warm soups, steam inhalation and avoid spicy food.
In some cases of such prolonged duration one might need to take a throat swab. But first I would suggest to ahead with course of antibiotics.

Regards.

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.

The pain could be due to the inflammation around the wound site with referred pain into the throat. As throat share common innervations, any inflammation produced after tooth extraction can radiate into the throat.

Do not worry! This is one of the common problems faced following dental extraction.

I would suggest you to take a potent anti-inflammatory medicines such as ibuprofen or diclofenac for the pain relief and an antibiotic (such as a combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid) to take care of any infection in the post extraction period.

It may be oedema........
I will suggest you to go to a specialist(oral surgeon),and go for whole mouth examination............
And follow all the instructions given and take a proper treatment.......

For temporary relief i would suggest you to have salt water gargle as a home remedy that will improve your symptoms. Take a lukewarm water and add salt to it. Gargle it for 3 to 4 times.

Hope I have answered your query.

Wishing you good health.
Regards.
