Wisdom Tooth Half Stuck In Gum. Having Dull Pain. Gum Swollen. Remedy?

Iv a really bad fear of the dentist so it's not an option. My lower wisdom tooth is half way through my gum at the bottom left ( has been for about a year) the gum has been swollen around it for about 48 hours now and is not painfull but more of a dull constant ache, I have a cold also . I just wanted to know if this is normal and if my cold is connected to it.

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Pain, headache, swollen gums are the symptoms associated with impacted wisdom tooth.

A detailed clinical as well as radiological evaluation of the tooth is necessary to plan the treatment.
Depending on the position as well as space available for tooth eruption,it has to be either extracted or retained.

Take complete course of antibiotics-analgesics.

Fever and throat infection are usually associated with such condition.

Take care.

Thanks for the query in forum. You did not mention your age. Generally if you cross 25 years, your wisdom tooth has least chance to erupt, even if it appears straight in radiograph. After certain age the tooth itself lose it's eruptive force. The pain occurred in a wisdom tooth is not due to pressure to the tooth in front of it, but generally due to localized infection, mostly due to food impaction under the mucus membrane, that cover the part of the tooth, which is contaminated by several bacteria. The grade of infection usually determines the severity of pain. It could be from dull ache to severe pain and sometimes present with a swollen face. Your swollen gum is most probably due to infection around your wisdom tooth. generally common cold does not cause swollen gum and tooth pain. You can use a course of antibiotics like Amoxicillin 500 mg or Amoxicillin+ clavulanic acid( Pottassium Clavulanate) 500mg + 125 mg 8 hourly and a simple analgesic like paracetamol 650 mg to 1000 mg according your severity of pain. This will subside your symptoms. Visit your dentist and get the offending tooth extracted as early as possible, otherwise these symptoms will recur at times.

Hi
As your wisdom tooth is erupting so sometimes it becomes difficult to maintain hygiene around it.
Due to which food gets lodged distally to the wisdom tooth , causing pain and sometimes swelling too.
You need to maintain good oral hygiene and use antiseptic mouthwash.
Take antibiotic coverage .
Take care

Dear friend.

Thanks for sharing your concern.

wisdom tooth eruption is not connected to common cold and cough .It is due to respiratory system involvement.you can visit your physician and take medication for that.you will be fine.

please do warm saline rinse for your erupting third molar.Nowa days third molar extraction is done painlessly,so you can reconsider about its extraction.

Hope it helps.

Thanks.

Take care.

hi...
thanks for the query...
food and debris accumulation between your gum and tooth causes pain... you should go to the dentist and should got the area irrigated by normal saline and antiseptic... and he will prescribe you medication (antibiotics and anti inflammatory) also... and will grind any sharp area of tooth irritating your gum...
after your symptoms subside, he will take X-ray to see the space available for tooth to errupt...
If sufficient space is available, small procedure called operculectomy i.e. removal of the operculum, will be proceeded and tooth will errupt by itself...
if suufficient space is not available, you should go for the extraction of tooth...
take care...

Welcome to HCM.
Better go for x-ray of that tooth. If it is straight than not to worry. It will come out slowly properly. If it is not straight and causing pressure on other tooth then it require removal of that tooth. consult your dentist for further advice and treatment.
Otherwise meanwhile you can take simple pain killer medicine.
