Would A Lump In My Salivary Gland Hurts If It Is Removed?
Hi, I am a 64 year old female. I have had a lump in a salivary gland on the left side of my neck for probably 2 months. I have no pain with it. I have seen my family doctor twice, the first visit he put me on an antibiotic. Something with sulfa in it. It didn't get rid of the lump. Went back for a second visit. He noticed it hadn't changed, so he sent me for a CT scan of the area. There is no stone or tumor. He sent me to an ENT last week. That doctor put me on another antibiotic. This time it was Clindamycin. I have been on it a week tomorrow. Still no change. The lump feels like a marble. Small in the mornings and changes sizes during the day. I have tried warm compresses and sucking on sour candies. Nothing seems to help. The ENT has said he will have to cut it out if it has not changed. I go back to him tomorrow. Would it hurt if it was left in there since it isn't hurting me?
Please dont worry, and follow your doctors advice. Before getting yourself operated, i would like you to consider a test called FNAC ( fine needle aspiration cytology) , in which a small needle is inserted in the lump and some cells are taken which will be examined under a microscope. I would also like you to get some blood tests like TLC and DLC done, to look for any infection. Thanks
