Would Aderall Be Beneficial In Treating Anxiety And Phobia?

I have been diagnosed with Social Phobia and had severe anxiety for many years. Finally, I started taking Paxil and amazingly it has mostly controlled my anxiety. I have a 20yr old grandson who has ADHD and recently was put on Aderall. His symptoms echoed what I deal with. Anxiety, depression, very low energy and finding it impossible at times to accomplish things. Once he started taking Aderall--he is a new person! No anxiety or depression, energetic- in fact he just landed a job that is one that could become a career (a first). I want the quality of life that I m seeing in him. Would Aderall benefit me do you think? Why or why not?

Hello Welcome to HCM

Social phobia is one of common anxiety disorder and ADHD is different disorder from anxiety disorders. Both disorders are not related. You have responded to Paroxetine and it controlled your anxiety. Adderall controlled the symptoms in your grandson and he has become energetic as he was suffering from ADHD. Adderall consists of amphetamines which are activating drugs cause improvement in symptoms of ADHD by increasing concentration. They are not anti anxiety drugs.

As you have social phobia taking adderall will not result in improvement in your case. Proper treatment in SSRIs like paroxetine, which caused improvement in your case. Medicines like Propranolol can prove useful in your case, as it will result in decreasing anxiety symptoms. Consult your psychiatrist for detailed treatment. Don't self medicate yourself.
