Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 53 yr old male, 5ft 8in, I am not sure about my weight but I wear 34 inch waist trousers and med size shirts(not over weight) I had an endoscopy in October which showed a hiatus hernia and Barrett's Esophagus . The question I have is would liver damage have shown up in the endoscopy?
liver damage would not show on an endoscopy, as you can't directly see the liver with this camera. you could see indirect effects of chronic liver damage through an endoscopy particularly on the esophagus and stomach (such as esophageal and/or gastric varices) but these varices are only seen on advanced liver disease. imaging studies, laboratories and ultimately a liver biopsy are better to check on the status of your liver
