Wound After Doing Stereotactic Biopsy. Painful Repacking. How Long To Heal?
I had a stereotactic biopsy four weeks ago. Two weeks after the biopsy, I noticed a red spot below where the needle went in. I went to the doctor and he put me on antibiotics. Four days later, it was a full abscess. It was drained and I was sent to a breast surgeon the next day. The breast surgeon immediately scheduled me for surgery. She removed an abscess that was 4.5 centimeters long. I now have an open wound that is an inch long and two inches wide and 4.5 cm deep. When I went in to the first doctor two weeks after the biopsy, the nurse said I was the second one that week. Does this mean someone messed up? I had gerneral anesthetic surgery. I assume because the abscess was deep and large. How long would it be expected that I need to have the packing redone. It is being repacked every other day and is very painful and nerve wracking. My breast is bruised from the packing.
Hi, this is the second case of infection, in this week, means it should be the nosochromial infection, means hospital aquired infection, it should be treated by an expert hand. i advise you to consult a senior surgeon for diagnosis and treatment. You may need to have culture and sensitivity of the discharge from the abscess and treatment accordingly. Thank you.
