Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was mowing the lawns recently and noticed a slight discomfort in the left wrist which I attributed to the thumb but later a large bruise appeared in the wrist and I am curious about how it was caused.
Welcome to HCM. Damage to the fascia and ligaments /soft tissue of the wrist joint due to unaccustomed stress on the wrist joint would cause the bruising.Blunt trauma or a fall may also cause this.It would be best to give complete rest to the wrist, using a ice pack, elevation of the wrist and a compression bandage would help till you see a doctor. You may need imaging studies and splints to prevent further/serious injury.
