X-ray Said Hyperaerater Lung Field. What Caused It? What Problems In Future?
Hi! My mother had an x-ray done and the results say she has hyperaerater lung field. I would like to know, what does it mean? what causes it? and what kind of problems she might present later? My father has smoked since I was a baby, could it be the cause? I ve been feeling out of air from time to time, specialy when I drink coffee. Thanks for your help, have a nice day.
hyperareated lungs means emphysema in medical terms. it means distended air spaces . occurs as a normal phenomenon with aging , called senile emphysema.
in smokers, it is a common pathology and leads to breathlessness , and progressive decreased lung functions, some develop heart dysfunction secondary to it. rarely a distended airspace may rupture causing serious sequelae called pneumothorax.
some are due to hereditary enzyme deficiencies.
passive smoking (effect of smoking on others around) does affect lungs to certain extent.
but pl. ask the radiologist if the hyperinflation is much enough to be called emphysema, or it is just an end-inspiratory film?
your breathlessness after coffee can not be explained with this info. pl. post more details of your problem, so that I could help.
take care and keep me posted on your progress.
Good luck !

Hello,
Commonest cause of hyperareated lung fields is COPD. That is chronic pulmonary disease. You need to get pulmonary function test to confirm this.Passive smoking can be related to this.
