Yellowish, Foamy Diarrhea, Abdominal Pain, Has Congenital Gastrocisis. Should Gluten Products Be Avoided?

My 2 1/2 yr daughter has a yellowish foamy diarrhea and is complaining of abdominal pain . She wants to lay down and rest. She just came off of amoxicillin and currently has no signs of a fever. She was born with gastrocisis and was tube feed until a year ago. Other than prescribing over the counter gas relief. Should we avoid gluten products for a while? No milk, or grains? What would be the best food to lean towards?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

Seeing the problems your daughter has undergone it is advisable to get a stool examination done initially before deciding to avoid certain products. Amoxicillin can also cause diarrhoea and it would be better to add probiotics to change the intestinal milleu.

While being tube fed your child must have been having cereals and if that was being tolerated well then it is very unlikely that you daughter will be allergic to gluten.

I hope I have responded to your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your daughter all the best.

Regards,

RKK
